Passwords

For secure and strong Passwords, change passwords every 90 days.  Follow this simple advice:

  • NEVER SHARE YOUR PASSWORD, Account Information, Credit card, Bank account, or other confidential information via email, web inquiries, pop-ups, or other forms of electronic communication. 
  • Legitimate organizations and businesses will not request confidential information this way. 
  • These scams are increasingly sophisticated, and are purposely intented to cause significant interruptions, data breaches, identity theft, financial fraud, viruses, and many other security threats. 

Keep Your Operating System Updated

  • Keep your computer up-to-date by installing the latest critical and security patches.

Use Your Antivirus Regularly

  • Antivirus software will help detect and protect your computer against viruses.
  • Be sure your Antivirus is installed, and up-to-date.  Also SCAN your computer regularly (such as weekly) for viruses.  For more information visit the NKU Antivirus page.
  • Some antivirus software includes scanning engines for malware and spyware.
  • NKU-Managed PC's (Faculty, Staff and Labs) will be automatically scanned on the 15th of every month.

Back Up Your Hard Drive Regularly

Residential students will be required to register computer devices on the NKU network in order to be granted NKU network access.
