Highlighting Our Projects
In this area we will highlight projects underway within IT. Please check back often!
Also, notice our Staff Spotlight and meet some of the staff who are working hard to serve the campus.
As mentioned in our welcome message, technology changes fast and we are actively investigating the latest technology for NKU.
Below are active initiatives to better serve and support our students, faculty, and staff.
Technology in the Classrooms - We are dedicated to continuous improvement of educational and classroom technology, through innovative instructional software, video streaming, collaboration tools, and instructional delivery.
Going Green - Through the use of virtualization, "thin clients", and "cloud computing", we can optimize resources such as power and cooling across campus. Utilizing virtualization we can reduce hardware equipment. "Thin clients" could allow NKU to centralize software installations within computer labs, and "cloud computing" gives us opportunities to manage applications at an offsite location with increased security and reduced costs.
Mobile Applications - With the ever-increasing use of mobile devices, IT is partnering with the Infrastructure Management Institute to develop mobile applications to enhance our students' experience here at NKU.
Disaster Recovery - Northern Kentucky University is embarking on a Disaster Recovery Plan to ensure business continuance in the event of a disaster. As a part of this effort, we are embarking on a partnership with other universities in Kentucky and Ohio to create an innovative and cost-effective Disaster Recovery Cooperative.
