Below is a copy of an important message that was emailed to campus on September 28th:

The Information Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC) recently surveyed the university regarding technology on campus as well as ways we could improve our IT services. One of the points of emphasis was that a majority of the survey respondents felt it was important for the Office of Information Technology to provide technology support to our faculty, staff and students on a 24 hour/7 days a week basis.  As a result, we are working towards this goal.  Meeting the 24x7 goal will take time and additional resources but we are happy to report that we have been able to extend our hours significantly effective today.

Beginning September 28th (today) we will be expanding our IT Service Center phone and chat hours. Users of 859-572-6911 and chat will be able to contact our technology support later on weeknights and weekends.

Our new IT Service Center phone/chat hours are:

Monday-Thursday 7:30am to 2:00am

Friday 7:30am to 5:30pm

Saturday 9:00am to 8:00pm

Sunday 12:30pm to 2:00am

Our Service Center in Steely Library Suite 220 will maintain the current hours for walk in service:

Monday-Thursday 8:00am to 6:30pm

Fridays 8:00am to 4:30pm

For details of how to connect with ITSC, please see http://it.nku.edu/itsc/servicecenter.php .

We are excited about the opportunity to extend our hours in response to your feedback.  We are committed to continuous improvement of these important IT services.  If you have comments or suggestions regarding OIT services, please feel free to send these to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Some Viruses are not obvious

Has your computer system been running slower than usual or shutting down unexpectedly? Are strange graphics appearing on your screen? Is your computer exhibiting unpredictable behavior?

Your system may be infected with a virus. To verify that there are no vulnerabilities remaining, complete full antivirus scans of the system. Change computer passwords and if you suspect anything has been intruded upon, change banking, health care and other sensitive passwords you may have. Sometimes, a virus may be so embedded into your system that it has to be reimaged (yes, a complete re-install)!  If you think your computer system may have a virus or needs to be reimaged, call the IT service center at (859) 572-6911 or visit http://it.nku.edu/itsc.

Malware, short for malicious software, is designed to infiltrate a computer without the owner's consent. Malware includes infectious varieties like viruses and worms, and concealment varieties such as trojans, rootkits and backdoors.  Most malware is intended as for-profit and is used for organized Internet crime. It comes in forms of spyware, botnets, keystroke logging, etc. To protect yourself malware, keep your system up-to-date for OS patches, anti-virus scans, and be cautious online. Malware can be found on several unsuspected websites.
